History of Big Book Weekend
In August of 2004 Hurricane Charlie tore through Orlando. The next day 28 people gathered at the gay and lesbian center (the only place in town with electricity) to attend an inspirational event hosted by the big book group and presented by Scott & Bob D. Afterward we all congregated at the local Chinese Buffet. Although it was wet and rainy weekend, we enjoyed each others fellowship.
The next year we held the event at the Altamonte Springs Holiday Inn. There was a 160 in attendance and NO HURRICANE. Instead of the “Big Book Weekend” we were calling it the “Ain’t it grand the wind stopped blowing weekend”
2006 moved the event to January the occasion presented by Scott L. and the late Keith L. There were 250+ in attendance.
The next year we failed to get a good contract with the Altamonte Springs Holiday Inn. So we moved the conference to beautiful Cocoa Beach and with Joe and Charlie the Big Book comes alive. Joe fell ill so Charlie was assisted by Wes B. Toronto, Canada.
Scott and Bob returned in 2008 with record breaking attendance. Everyone agreed it was the finest presentation of the Big Book they ever heard.
